Dear Aunt, dear Godmother.
You are leaving us, going to join your brother just a few months after he passed away... To the child I was, you were my ‘exotic’ family from the other side of the world, the land of my koala cuddly toy! As a child, the planes I saw in the sky all came from Australia, and the first time I set foot in an airport was to go and welcome you with Bill when you came to visit your French family.
When I looked at my globe world map, I always asked, “How does my godmother fit in upside down?!!”
These childhood memories will fill my mind tonight, when your service takes place whilst I’m asleep at 2am French time.
My heart is Australian; I wish you eternal rest, and give a kiss to your brother, my father.
