Dear Col and family, I was saddened to hear of Cols passing recently and Just wanted to say a few words as I'm currently laid up in hospital with a broken leg, and was unable to make the funeral yesterday.
I started my career with Bellingen shire back in 1986 and fondly remember working under both Spud Lavender, Georgie Souris, and Col.
Col was a great boss and mentor to me as a young bloke starting out. I remember talking
with him during my early days where he explained how he had worked his way thru the workforce to become senior Overseer at raleigh, which showed me that if you put your head down and worked hard, listened and learnt along the way, and had crack at everything put in front of you, opportunities would open up for you.
I was lucky enough to work as Dorrigo Overseer for 9 years, and then back to Raleigh as Roads Overseer after that.
I will alway's be grateful for Cols Input and advice early on in my career, and greatly enjoyed working alongside him for many years. He was a great mate and we also shared a love of farming which we frequently spoke about.
He was a devoted and very hard working member of staff, and always had the ratepayers interests at heart no matter what project he was managing. He will be missed by many, and I'm very grateful for the time I got to spend with him.
Rest in peace mate.........
